The entrance gate to Auschwitz I, the largest and one of the most notorious concentration and extermination centers during Nazi domination in Europe. "Arbeit Macht Frei" (Work Brings Freedom) was the sign placed there by Major Rudolf Hoss, commandant of the camp.
